The Premier League Board (PLB) has postponed the match between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak in the week 23 of the Ghana Premier League game scheduled for the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday July 16, 2017.
The decision to postpone the much-awaited game follows the tragic accident involving Asante Kotoko on their way to Kumasi after their match with Inter Allies at the El-wak stadium in Accra.
In a press release the PLB is expressed its deepest regret by the development, and expressed its deepest sympathy to Asante Kotoko.
“Our prayers and thoughts are with the family of Mr Thomas Asare, the departed Assistant Equipment Manager, and we pray to Almighty God to heal the injured players and officials”.
A PLB delegation has been sent to Kumasi to express the Board’s support in this difficult time.
According to the release signed by the PLB Chairman Ashford Tettey-Oku, all club officials and players have been directed to wear red and black armbands for the rest of the matches to be honored at the various centers.
In the release, all matches would be played on Sunday instead of the earlier announced Saturday, with only the game between Bechem United and Bolga All Stars to be televised on Saturday.
The PLB has further directed the observation of a minute silence in honor of the departed official of Kotoko before all Match Day 23 Premier League matches.
Finally, the PLB commends all those who assisted Kotoko during the difficult moment, as well as Okwahu United, who made their bus available to transport injured Kotoko players to Kumasi.
